JFD secures £11m service contract with UK MoD ensuring long-term operational availability of their subsea capabilities
- Contract award to provide comprehensive in-service support, recertification and redesign for the MoD Transportable Manned Compression Chambers (TMCC)
- Upgrades and modifications will improve safety, efficiency and compatibility with new technologies
- Commitment to support the MoD’s operational success through unparalleled expertise, demonstrated capabilities and worldwide reach
JFD, a James Fisher & Sons plc company, specialising in world leading underwater services for commercial and defence markets, has been awarded an eight year, £11m service contract to continue and expand its services to the Ministry of Defence (MoD). The partnership will ensure long-term availability of Royal Navy subsea capabilities.
The contract involves a thorough assessment of the current in-service Transportable Manned Compression Chambers (TMCCs), upgrades and modifications for safety and efficiency, certification and compliance for military and international diving standards, ongoing training, and regular preventative and corrective maintenance schedules.
TMCCs are a transportable therapeutic compression chamber used for medically treating divers with decompression illness and for planned surface or unplanned omitted decompression. Having a fully certified and capable transportable compression chamber supported by a robust in-service support package is crucial for maintaining operational readiness of a military dive team.
JFD’s wealth of subsea knowledge, experience, technological innovation and proven record of delivering will be essential in the support of diver safety and ensuring these systems are always operationally ready to respond in some of the most challenging environments.
Rob Hales, Managing Director, JFD commented:
“I am delighted the UK MoD has chosen our world class team to continue to provide the in-service support for their Type C Chambers. This is testament to our innovation and expertise in subsea systems, and our deep understanding of the MoD’s requirements.”
Peter Laughton, Head of Military Diving commented:
“At JFD we take immense pride in pioneering solutions to complex problems in the maritime environment. When you need a diving compression chamber in anger, it’s invariably an emergency and potentially life-threatening situation demanding the highest levels of equipment availability and performance.”
JFD currently supports the MoD and other global navies with innovative, reliable and safety-critical hyperbaric and recompression chamber solutions. The JFD Cowan Transportable Recompression Chamber System (TRCS) is capable of diving to a depth of 70 meters and can provide oxygen, air, and mixed gases (or air and oxygen only) for an unlimited period. Over 100 systems have been provided to the US and Australia.
JFD is an established provider to 80 countries and 33 navies worldwide. At the forefront of commercial and defence diving, submarine rescue services, submarine platforms and tactical diving vehicles it delivers the most innovative products available to enhance the safety of those who spend their lives working subsea, and support mission success.
