JFD's first aid at work qualification is an important means in ensuring the most effective care is given between the onset of an emergency and the arrival of professional medical personnel.
A fast and efficient response can save lives and prevent minor injuries becoming major ones. This course by JFD is designed to provide candidates with the basic skills and confidence to deal with real life emergencies.
In response to recent changes to industry guidelines, our first aid course now always includes AED training:
'The revision will require all workplace first aiders to be trained in the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) from the 31 December 2016, as the Resuscitation Council UK guidelines now state that the management of a casualty requiring CPR is to request an AED.'

This course is designed to provide candidates with basic skills and confidence to deal with real life emergencies.
Entry requirement
Anyone can attend this course over the age of 16.
Certification
Candidates who successfully complete this course will be given a full first aid at work certificate which is valid for 3 years. For best practice health and safety executive recommend you complete an annual refresher of your first aid skills.
Candidates will also receive an AED certificate which is valid for 1 year.

As an employer, the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require you to provide adequate and appropriate first aid equipment, facilities and people so your employees can be given immediate help if they are injured or taken ill at work.
Course Content
This course will comprise of theory and practical elements within the following topics:
- Scene survey
- Primary & Secondary survey
- Unconscious casualty (including seizures)
- Cardiac & Respiratory emergencies
- Cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Bleeding & wounds
- Fractures & Dislocations
- Burns
- Eye injuries
- Poisoning
- Common Illnesses (Stroke, Asthma, Diabetes etc.)
- Extremes of temperature
- Casualty handling
- Shock
Also included is an Oxygen Administration course which from December 2014 is a requirement under the revised Offshore Diving Approved Code of Practice. Divers who hold the basic First Aid at Work Certificate must now also have an O2 Administration Certificate.
From the 31st December 2016, revisions to the Resuscitation Council UK guidelines require all workplace first aiders to be trained in the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) which will also be included in this course.
Entry Requirement
Anyone can attend this course over the age of 18. Candidates must hold a valid first aid at work 1 day, 3 day or first aid at work requalification certificate.
Certification
This course is not certified. It is designed to keep your existing first aid at work or emergency first aid at work skills and confidence refreshed.
